Artist Showcase: Thya Merz Studios

Detail from encaustic work by Thya Merz.

One of the things I love doing is to showcase other artists who work in different media than I do.

I ADORE doing this, as it lets other artists focus on their specialty, and it lets me do what I do best: take photos and create images!

My tagline for my business is "You Look Amazing. I Capture It."
It's something I really believe, nay; feel deeply.

I find a moment of grace when I'm busy working to see into another being's beauty.

Working with the HIGHLY talented Thya Merz (go buy her work before it's unaffordable!) induced a stream of such moments of grace for me. I felt that I got to see her inner glow, and as unobtrusively as possible, to record it.

I had felt this thing before, this grace, this seeing into another's soul-beauty. But this was the time I was able to put a concept and words to the feeling.
All of my sessions are special in some way; this one was special because I got to name the grace that I experience daily in my work.

...

The goal of my time with Thya was to create a collection of photographs that would show her in her studio and working, to capture her mood and her energy; also - to get a great headshot!

A lot of the people I work with are fairly camera-shy or are not comfortable with certain aspects of their faces and bodies. I LOVE what a good photo of someone can do for a person's self-confidence. It's a very powerful tool for a person to have a photo of themselves which is both current and that they love and feel good about.

Think about it: we are all so online these days, we use the internet for everything from getting jobs to finding love, and how do we show who we are? With a photo.

Not gonna lie - when you hire me, you're going to get that awesome photo! More on that another time though.

For Thya, I counted the day won when we got a headshot that she, I, AND her family approved of.

Please enjoy a few of my favorites from T. Merz Studios.

Love & snapshots,

Larkin

Thya plans her day.

Contemplation.
